I love jumping into the ocean—bodysurfing, floating, and feeling the waves. But sometimes, the ocean doesn’t love me back.
During one of my aquatic adventures in Mexico, a powerful wave caught me off guard, leaving me with a painfully sprained knee.
I spent three days on the couch locked in pain.
As a 58-year-old digital nomad, finding consistent treatment while constantly on the move was – and is – a challenge.
Initially, I sought professional physiotherapy in Canada, paying $135 per session. While beneficial, the expenses quickly accumulated.
Determined to find a cost-effective alternative, I googled and found the TENS Unit, a portable device that transformed my approach to pain management.
What is Cold Laser Therapy?
Cold laser therapy is low-intensity laser therapy that stimulates healing while using low levels of light.
The technique is referred to as “cold” laser therapy because the light levels are too low to generate heat in your body’s tissue. Compared to other types of laser therapy, like those used to destroy tumors or coagulate tissue, the light intensity is significantly lower.
Surgical and aesthetic lasers heat the tissue being treated. True to its name, cold laser therapy does not.
First Impressions of Cold Laser Pain Therapy
After my first session with the TENS Unit, I was slightly uncomfortable, but I had been warned about this from the treatment in Canada, so I knew to take one more treatment. With the second treatment, the discomfort diminished, and I experienced remarkable pain relief that left me genuinely astonished. IT WORKED! After 5 sessions over 5 days of 3×10 minutes, the pain was close to gone.
Benefits of the TENS
- Portability: Its compact design allows me to have it in my carry-on luggage, ensuring access to pain relief wherever I am.
- Cost-Effective: A one-time purchase that eliminates the need for expensive physiotherapy sessions.
- Convenient: Use it at home or abroad, on your schedule.
- Effective: Provides significant pain relief after just a few sessions. Fasat pain relief is something I think we can all appreciate!
Considerations
It’s important to note that individual experiences may vary. Some users might feel initial discomfort during the first session, but this typically subsides with subsequent treatments. (The following is something I HAVE to write, but I don’t always do it myself, because I sometimes travel in countries with not so great healthcare: Consulting with a healthcare professional before starting any new treatment is advisable, especially for individuals with underlying health conditions.) I have worked hard to get to now my body, learn about nutrition and healing in the last ten years, so I could travel without worrying!
I Take My TENS Everywhere
Incorporating the TENS Unit into my pain management routine has been transformative. I pack it in my carry on, so I have it if I need it.
Not only has it provided effective relief, but it has also been a financially savvy decision. For those seeking an alternative to expensive physiotherapy sessions, I highly recommend considering the TENS Unit.
So the initial annoying experience turned into being a learning and a gift that made me more self sufficient and able to travel safely. Ready to experience pain relief? Click here to check it out on Amazon!
