My Simple Web Design Process (With a Little Help From ChatGPT!)

Sharing is caring!

Building a Website Step by Step Can Be Easy

Creating a website can feel overwhelming, especially if you’re not a designer or tech-savvy. I’ve been there, staring at a blank screen, wondering where to even start. However, over time, I’ve learned that keeping things simple and knowing where to get help can transform the process. Therefore, here’s how I approach web design in a way that’s clear, manageable, and—dare I say—fun, with ChatGPT as my secret weapon.

Step 1: Start With a Clear Goal

Before anything else, I define the purpose of my website. For mettesjoy.com, it’s all about empowering women over 45 to embrace financial freedom, abundance, and wellness. Consequently, every design choice—from the layout to the fonts to the colors—needs to serve that purpose.

This is where ChatGPT comes in handy. If I’m stuck defining my website’s tone or crafting the perfect About page, I can ask it for ideas, and it gives me a great starting point. It’s like having a brainstorming buddy who never runs out of creative energy.

Next, go get a name – a domain name at Hostinger, because they have one click setup of WordPress and that makes it so much easier. Click here for a Hostinger domain and website!

Step 2: Choose the Right Tools

I believe in using tools that work with me, not against me. For example, I love the Astra theme because it’s simple, responsive, and gives me the clean, professional look I’m going for without the headache. You can find that inside the admin panel of the WordPress interface. Add-ons like GetResponse for email sign-ups or Smush for optimizing images make my site more functional.

ChatGPT comes to the rescue when I’m not sure where to find them or how to use these tools effectively. I’ve asked it everything from “How do I optimize my site for SEO?” to “What’s the best way to use Astra to showcase my products?” It breaks down the answers in a way that’s easy to follow, even if you’re not super techy.

Step 3: Create Content That Resonates

Your content is the heart of your website. I write every blog post and product description with my audience in mind—women who are ready to rise into abundance and joy. But sometimes, I get stuck finding the right words or ideas.

Enter ChatGPT. Need headline ideas? Done. Struggling to turn an idea into a full blog post? Easy. It even helps me refine my tone so every post feels true to my voice. And if I need help with SEO-friendly keywords? ChatGPT has that covered, too.

When I find an article on the web that resonates with me, I give Chatgpt the link and ask it to rewrite so it matches my style and my goals.

Step 4: Simplify Design Decisions

I used to overthink every little design detail, but now I focus on simplicity. Clean layouts, cohesive fonts (I’m partial to Poppins), and colors that align with my branding create a polished look.

For inspiration, I sometimes describe the vibe I’m going for to ChatGPT—bold and empowering but approachable—and it suggests ideas that align perfectly with my vision. It’s like having a design assistant in my pocket.

Step 5: Test, Tweak, and Grow

Once the site is live, the work isn’t over. I test everything—forms, links, and layouts—and make tweaks based on how it performs. With ChatGPT, I can troubleshoot issues or brainstorm ways to improve user experience without feeling lost.

Why ChatGPT Is a Game-Changer

For me, ChatGPT isn’t just a tool—it’s a partner in my web design journey. Whether I need copywriting help, technical advice, or just a fresh perspective, it’s there to guide me. It takes the guesswork out of building and maintaining my site, letting me focus on what really matters: connecting with my audience and creating value.

If you’re feeling stuck with your website or just want to make the process smoother, I highly recommend trying ChatGPT. It’s like having a tech-savvy best friend who’s available 24/7.

So, if you’ve been putting off creating your website, let this be your sign to start. Keep it simple, stay focused on your goals, and don’t be afraid to ask for help—whether from tools like ChatGPT or from your community. You’ve got this!
